merry marnie is named after a dear friend from Massachusetts. They used to live close to the cleveland area and came back to visit ohio and stopped in to see the gardens. She saw this seedling in bloom and went nuts over it!! She loves purple and this one fits the bill!! So, I asked if I could use her name and she asked me to use her knick name! Gardeners are just the best people ever! merry marnie is really set apart from other purples for the bud count and branching. It sports 5 (yup 5!!!) way branching and 35 (wowowow) buds!! I owe the parents for this garden work horse!! Raptor (I was going for unusual form, but it gave me bud counts and branching!!) x dark wonder (yes, I know, I wanted a tetraploid double unusual form! Ha on me!) I did register this as an unusual form, since it likes to curl the sepals. With 8" blooms and all those branches, it's sure to please any that grow this one. I think that semi evergreen foliage is stretching it, it's at least 50% dormant, or very hardy. I don't mulch any of my seedlings, they have to prove hardy in zone 5 winters. Sometimes we have snow, sometimes it's zero here with no snow, so be assured that I'm not registering, non hardy daylilies! Merry marnie is a great garden work horse and increases nicely!
